Experience the magic of night trail riding in the Sonoran desert at the Vertigo Night Trail Rides held on a rolling 7 mile loop at the White Tank Mountain Regional Park competitive track. This is a perfect beginner night ride with distances for all. Ride past towering saguaro cactus under the night stars!

This race is part of the Insomniac Night Trail Ride Series with events all across the state of Arizona. Join us and “Carpe Noctem” to “seize the night”!

INSOMNIAC PRE-RIDES


Join RD Aaron the Sunday prior to race night for a day time preview of the course. Follow Aravaipa Rides social media for details. Meet times and places will be announced a few days in advance. These will be non-competitive rides, however, faster groups and slower groups will be formed if necessary. Water will be available to top off your bottles and hydrovests. Please bring your favorite trail snack and electrolytes.

COURSE INFO

Course Summary
Vertigo is the final race in the 2024 Insomniac Night Trail Ride Series. All races will be held on the same 7 mile loop and repeated as many times as you'd like in your respective race.

The Juniors Loop will cut out the final climb and loop through the North Ridge Aid Station. It will be approximately 5.5 miles.

The loop is comprised of the Main Track and Beginner Loop which feature a mix of wider rolling desert terrain, some more narrow and rocky single track and a short steep climb.

Riders will experience a variety of conditions and challenges while looping under the night sky.

AWARDS

Finisher Medal
All participants will receive a custom wood race medal featuring the Vertigo Night Rides logo.

Podium Awards

The top three male and female riders in each race will receive a custom podium award from Aravaipa Artworx. The top teams in the relay category will receive a custom podium medal. Awards for each race will take place approximately 15 minutes after the race final cutoff.

 

RACE VILLAGE

Feed Tent
We are proud to offer a fully stocked drink and feed tent directly on course at our start/finish race village that is easily accessible each lap of the course. We'll be ready to serve you water, ice, electrolyte drinks, soda, iced coffee, salty and sweet snacks, fruit, pb&j, bean rollups, hot food (quesadillas, grilled cheese), and more.

Event Partners
We will feature activation areas for event partners and sponsors on site. Our partners will be an integral part of our race village at the start/finish line for the duration of the evening. If you are interested in becoming a partner for an event or the entire series, please contact us.

Camping
We've partnered up with White Tank Mountain Regional Park to offer on site camping in their attached parking lot. Feel free to bring your van, truck or camper and spend the night on site after your race is over. Camping permits are $15/unit per night and can be purchased with this link: Camping Permit.

Medical

We will have our MedStar Solutions medical staff based at the start / finish headquarters to assist with first aid onsite. We reserve the right to pull you from the race if medical officials deem it necessary.

NOTE: Please do NOT call 911 in a medical emergency. Our medical team is highly trained and understands the terrain and driving access points. Please call the race day number and they will dispatch immediately.

White Tank Mountain Regional Park is located at the very west end of Olive Ave about 15 miles west of the 101 (Agua Fria Highway).

NORTH: Take Highway 303 south and exit at PEORIA AVE. Turn right from the off-ramp and travel west for 1 mile on Peoria Ave to Cotton Lane. Turn left (south) onto Cotton Lane until you get to Olive Ave. Turn right (west) on Olive Ave and continue 4 miles to the park gate.

SOUTH: Take Highway 303 north and exit at NORTHERN AVE. Turn left (west) at the light and off-ramp onto Northern Ave, traveling west for 1 mile to Cotton Lane. Turn right (north) onto Cotton lane and travel 1 mile to Olive Ave. Turn left (west) onto Olive Ave and continue for 4 miles to the park gate.

Parking
Remember the park now charges a $7 park entry fee per vehicle.
Please arrive early and have correct change (cash) available on race evening for a smooth entry process. Maricopa County Parks also offers an Annual Pass for $85. Carpool to save!

Weather
Expect warm temperatures at the start and things to stay warm throughout the event We'll have plenty of ice and water on course.

Timing
All races will be professionally chip timed with a disposable timing chip attached to you bike bib. Please attach to your handlebars on the front of your bike. Live results will be available during the event at Aravaipa Live. 

Course Marking
The race courses will be well marked with orange plastic ribbons with black polka dots and reflective medallions. Trail junctions and turns will be well marked with reflective laminated signs. In addition, blue & white checkerboard plastic flagging and RED reflective WRONG WAY signs will be hung to designate non-race or “WRONG WAY” trails. All riders are responsible for understanding the layout of the course. Please familiarize yourself with the course maps on our website prior to race day and/or print a map to bring along with you.

Aid Stations
In addition to a fully stocked drink and feed station at the start/finish line at the Sonoran Loop Competitive Track, there will be one water and electrolyte remote aid station located along the Main Loop that riders will pass by every loop. Our main aid station will be stocked with water, ice, electrolyte drinks, salty and sweet snacks, fruit, pb&j, bean rollups, hot food (quesadillas, grilled cheese), and more.

Cutoffs
In order for your final loop to count you must cross the finish line before your 3 or 6 hour time limit expires. We will have a final loop cutoff where you can head out on your loop no later than a certain time:
9:45 PM - 3 Hour Solo Final Loop Cutoff
10:30 PM - 3 Hour Race Ends
12:15 AM - 6 Hour Final Loop Cutoff
1:00 AM - 6 Hour Race Ends

Duo Teams
6 Hour Duo participants are comprised of two riders on a single team who complete laps one at a time for their team. You decide who rides which laps and how many. Riders may elect to ride more than one loop in a row, but switching between riders may be done only in the transition zone at the start/finish area.

Drop Bags
We will have an area specified for your personal drop bag at the start/finish area that will allow for easy and quick access. Feel free to setup your own coolers and chairs in designated areas.

Camping
Camping is allowed by White Tank Mountain Regional Park for this event in their dirt parking lot as long as you purchase a camping permit here. One $15 camping permit will be good for one truck / van / camper for the night of the race.

Mountain Biking and Trash
Please respect the trails and the beauty of the desert by disposing of any trash at one of our aid stations. We do recycle and participate in the Terracycle program where we recycle used nutrition packets and gel wrappers. Please deposit them in the specified container at the feed station.

Trail Etiquette
Remember to always remain on designed trails, no short cutting.
Headphones are not permitted.
E Bikes are not permitted.

This course includes some legit single track. If you are fast and attempting to pass, please alert the rider in front of you before flying past them. Likewise, if you hear a rider approaching you from behind, attempt to find a spot to allow the pass.

As a general rule, when passing a rider, announce, “on your left.” Remain in control and respect the other participants.
Everyone is after the same goal here so let’s be respectful of each other’s races and have fun.

Pets
For the safety of all runners, no pets are allowed on-course at the night races. Any pets at the race must be on a leash at all times, respect park rules, and be supervised.

If you would like to join our volunteer team, we are looking for help with event setup, aid station, and event breakdown. Volunteer perks include a piece of Aravaipa merchandise or race goody and Aravaipa Race Credits. Volunteer registration is available now
