Test your endurance on a 25 mile loop rolling through McDowell Mountain Regional Park. Whether you tackle the full 100 mile solo, one of our relay events, or just get the gears rolling with the 10 miler, we want to get you out on the trails to ride with us! Utilizing some of the local favorites, the loop will ride portions of Escondido, Pemberton, and the Long Loop trails. Welcome the cooler weather and race through the gorgeous Sonoran desert landscape, with some of the valley's more iconic peaks in the background. We aim to have the right distance for anyone, so find the ride that suits you best, and saddle up for a great time in the desert!

Back for Year Two!

The Frenzy Gravel Grinder features the best of McDowell Mountain Park with less of the technical and rocky parts. Choose one loop for 25 miles or go two for 50. Can you hang with the big dogs? We have a 100 mile Gravel option as well. New for 2024...we are offering 50 mile duo as well as 100 mile duo and quad Gravel relay categories. Gravel bikes with drop bars are required for all of the gravel categories.

COURSE INFO

Course Summary
The Frenzy Hills takes some classic local trails and connects them into a 25 mile loop through McDowell Mountain Regional Park. 100 mile riders will get to know the loop well with 4 complete circuits of the route.

The loop is comprised of the entire Escondido Trail to kick things off, connecting with the Pemberton Trail which features a mix of wider rolling desert terrain, some more narrow and rocky single track and a short section of sandy wash, and ends out on the Long Loop.

The 25 Mile Gravel Loop will also start on Escondito Trail but quickly turn onto Cinch, Cinch to Pemberton and up onto Escondito again. After a short ride on the road Racers will veer on to Verde Trail on the North side of the park and take that to the intersection of Pemberton (again). From there you are off, on and off Pemberton going down Delsie, up Bluff and down Tonto Tank before rejoining Pemberton to Shalmo wash and the finish.

Our Junior Riders aged 8-13 will stay on the Comp Track using parts of the Sport and Technical Loops. This 3.6 Mile loop will allow our younger Racers to experience varied terrain as they navigate the loop twice.

Our 14-18 year old Juniors will follow the 10 Mile Loop which uses the Sport, Tech and Long Loops.

Riders will experience a variety of conditions and challenges while looping through the desert. We hope you'll come out and embrace the challenge with us, whether at 10 miles, 100 miles, or a relay, we'd love to have you ride with

Riders may elect to ride more than one loop in a row, but switching between riders may be done only in the transition zone at the start/finish area. .

Drop Bags
We will have an area specified for your personal drop bag at the start/finish area that will allow for easy and quick access. Feel free to setup your own coolers, pop-ups and chairs in designated areas.

McDowell Mountain Regional Park offers 96 individual sites for tent or RV camping. Sites in the campground may be reserved online at Maricopa County Parks. Participants can also camp in the group campground for $22/night. Payment is taken at the park entrance. The group campground is 2.5 miles away from the event.

Mountain Biking and Trash
Please respect the trails and the beauty of the desert by disposing of any trash at one of our aid stations. We do recycle and participate in the Terracycle program where we recycle used nutrition packets and gel wrappers. Please deposit them in the specified container at the feed station.

Trail Etiquette
Remember to always remain on designed trails, no short cutting.
No headphones allowed.
No e-bikes permitted.

This course includes some legit single track. If you are fast and attempting to pass, please alert the rider in front of you before flying past them. Likewise, if you hear a rider approaching you from behind, attempt to find a spot to allow the pass.

As a general rule, when passing a rider, announce, “on your left.” Remain in control and respect the other participants.
Everyone is after the same goal here so let’s be respectful of each other’s races and have fun.

Pets
For the safety of all runners, no pets are allowed on-course at the night races. Any pets at the race must be on a leash at all times, respect park rules, and be supervised.
